New Quilter Gets a New Sewing Machine

I had one sewing class in Junior High and put the needle through my thumb. It made the Home Economics teacher pass out and gave me some notoriety as the thumb girl. The principle made sure I got an A and that I did not have to take another Home Economics class again. Well now that I am older I started to make some quilts with my aunt who is a crazy mad quilter. She is very into the whole quilting thing and even sales her quilts at an open market on weekends. Well I have two young children and I have wanted to make them some new quilts for there beds. We live in Colorado and it gets cold in the winter. Well after learning how to make a simple tie quilt I needed a sewing machine to make binding it easier. I got online and found all sorts of great information on best sewing machine for beginners, I even found a machine that comes with a quilters foot. It had great reviews and tons of solid information.

Reducing Stress with a Michaels Coupon

Recent studies have shown that the high levels of stress we see today are actually generated by our societies tendency to lead a mostly cerebral life and that is why I have made it a point to get a Michael’s Coupon at least once a week and go down to the store and pick out something. I need the coupon because otherwise I would have the tendency to pick out something very cerebral like painting but because the coupons are relatively arbitrary I have actually ended up learning how to knit, although I am not very good at it and I have even learned how to sculpt. Of course I am nothing but an amateur having fun with clay but the truth is that I have never felt more relaxed and good about the things in my life and that is all the result of the work I have been doing.

Quilting for Beginners

Learning how to make quilts is one craft that can be a lot of fun since it encourages your imagination to run wild with endless possibilities. However, to get to the next level, you need to familiarize yourself with quilting instructions for beginners so that you’ll get an idea of how to proceed with your learning process.

One of the first things you need to know how to make a quilt is the types of quilting as this gives you options on how you want your quilt to look like once it’s done. The first type is the edge to edge, which is a single, hand-guided design quilted over the entire top and it is the simplest and easiest form of quilting since it’s basically just one design top to bottom, side to side. The next would be freehand or overall free form quilting which means you can finish your project in half or more of the time that it usually takes to quilt by hand with a little practice. Meandering on the other hand, is free form quilting in a uniform pattern over the entire top with the lines not touching or crossing each other. If you’re

working with appliques, quilting around it or printed designs in general is called outlining. This is usually done ¼”

away from the seam line and strengthens the quilt. Custom quilting on the other hand, is a combination of the types of quilting including channel and freehand but is not restricted to outlining, meandering, seam stitching and echo quilting around appliques and printed designs. If you have time and patience, you can do the heirloom as it mainly composed of intricate feather designs, trapunto, wreaths, freehand and whole cloth designs. To make your designs stand out, you need to do filling and for this there are three subtypes: channel which is quilting done in straight lines, echo which means that the shapes of the patchwork or applique are echoed and crosshatching, which is straight line quilting done in a grid pattern. If you want to highlight or emphasize only certain parts of your design, you can do the selective type or the accent type which complements the existing seam lines. Along these lines you can also do the motif type which follows the lines of a design drawn on the quilt top. And last but not the least, for a clean look to your quilt, you can do the ditch type as this requires quilting very close to the seam line of a patch, block or

border so that it is almost invisible.

Learning quilt making will soon be as easy as pie depending on your determination to learn the craft. Try it now and quilt till you wilt!

Padded Mailing Envelopes can be used for a multitude of things including CD’s, photographs, small breakable items and DVD’s.
